Cultural Note

The Dala horse, or Dalahst, is one of Swedens most enduring folk symbols, traditionally carved and painted in the Dalarna region. Originally created as a handcrafted toy, the Dala horse has come to represent Swedish craftsmanship, rural life, and national pride. Its bright colors and floral patterns are rooted in the kurbits painting tradition, a decorative style that flourished in 18th-century Sweden. Incorporating this imagery into serveware allows the spirit of Swedish hospitality and heritage to shine through in everyday rituals.
